A Catalyst for Change
Sebagai seorang OP (Orang Pencen) saya bertanya kepada diri sendiri, apakah perkara yang berlaku kepada Ahmad (anak kelima saya) ini suatu ujian Allah ataupun satu kifarat atau balasan. Ya, boleh jadi juga satu ujian, boleh jadi juga satu kifarat. Mungkin juga kedua-duanya sekali.
As an OP (Old Pensioner) I asked myself, whether what had happened to Ahmad (my 5th child) was an ordeal or a penalty on me. Yes, maybe it was an ordeal, maybe it was a penalty. Maybe it was both.
Sebagai seorang ayah, sayalah orang yang berautoriti ke atas keluarga saya. Autoriti ini Allah yang beri, bukan orang lain yang beri. Jadi saya tidak ada pilihan. Suka pun saya kena terima, tak suka pun saya tetap kena terima juga. Lainlah jika autoriti ini diberi kepada saya oleh orang lain.
As the father, I was the authority to my family. This authority was granted upon me by the al-Mighty not by other than Him. Hence, I had no choice. Whether I liked it or not I had to accept it. This might not be so if the authority were given to me by fellow human beings.
Sebagai pihak yang berautoriti dalam keluarga, maka saya tidak boleh lepas tangan dari apa yang sedang Ahmad sedang hadapi sekarang. Jika tidak, maka saya adalah seorang ayah yang tidak bertanggungjawab. Tidak perlu saya tunggu sampai orang lain kata kepada saya “anda bapa yang tak bertanggungjawab” baru saya akan sedar. Sebaliknya ehsan yang sedia ada dalam hati saya sudah cukup bagi menyedarkan saya bahawa saya bertanggungjawab atas apa yang dilakukan oleh setiap ahli keluarga saya yang berautoritikan saya.
As the person who held the authority in the family, I could not simply ignore the problem that was being faced by Ahmad. If so, I might be blamed for being an irresponsible father. I should not wait until someone came to me and said, “you are an irresponsible father !” to make me realise it. Instead, my inner self consciousness was strong enough to make me realised that I was fully responsible for what each and every member of my family did..
Berdasarkan prinsip ini maka saya mengakui bahawa saya adalah ayah yang gagal melaksanakan amanah Allah kepada saya jika sekiranya anak-anak saya tidak berjaya dalam hidup masing-masing. Khusus dalam kes Ahmad ini, jika terbukti beliau bersalah maka suka atau tidak saya terpaksa turut rasa bersalah kerana beliau adalah hasil didikan saya sebagai seorang ayah. Namun saya masih yakin bahawa beliau tidak melakukan apa yang dituduh terhadap beliau itu.
Based on such principle, I must admit that I would be considered a failure (being the father) in carrying out the task entrusted upon me by the al-Mighty should my children were not successful in their lives. For Ahmad’s case in particular, if it were proven (at the end of the day) that he was guilty then, whether I liked it or otherwise, I would still have to feel guilty too because he was the product of the upbringing by me, being his father. However, until this moment I am still confident that Ahmad did not do as what he had been accused of.
Di sini ingin saya bertanya anda semua, tidakkah pihak yang diberi mandat oleh rakyat untuk memerintah negara amnya dan Johor khususnya selama 55 tahun rasa bersalah kerana gagal mentadbirnya dengan baik. ? Sekiranya ia ditadbir dengan baik kes Ahmad tak mungkin timbul. Malah ini bukanlah kes pertama antara rakyat yang lemah dengan pihak istana.
At this juncture, I wish to ask the readers, don’t they who had been given the mandate by the people to rule the country as a whole, and the state of Johor in particular for the last 55 years feel guilty too for failing to rule them effectively? If they had ruled praise-worthily, then Ahmad’s case would not have cropped up. In fact it was not the first case (and might not be the last case too), between the weak citizen and the powerful palace.
Suka saya ambil negeri Kelantan sebagai contoh. Lihatlah bagaimana parti yang diberi mandat oleh rakyat untuk mentadbir negeri di bawah Tuan Guru Nik Aziz begitu berjaya meningkatkan mertabat dan maruah Sultannya, hingga baginda sangat dihormati lagi disayangi oleh rakyatnya. Tapi apa yang telah berlaku dan sedang dihadapi oleh rakyat Johor adalah sebaliknya.
I would like to point at the state of Kelantan as an example. We could see how the state had been run by the party that had been given the mandate by its people under the leadership of Religious Teacher Nik Abdul Aziz. They were quite successful in uplifting the dignity of their sultan such that he was highly respected and loved by his subjects. But what was being faced by the people of Johor was the otherwise.
Apa yang berlaku kepada Ahmad biarlah menjadi pemangkin kepada perubahan positif di negeri Johor. Suka ataupun tidak rakyat Johor perlu terima hakikat bahawa keharmonian hidup mereka sekadar yang ada sekarang, adalah akibat kegagalan parti yang mereka beri mandate untuk memerintah. Apa yang berlaku di Kelantan sekarang adalah sebaliknya. InsyaAllah senario yang sama dengan di negeri Kelantan akan menjadi realiti dan dapat dinikmati di bumi Johor jika sekiranya iannya di perintah oleh PR
Let’s hope that what had happened to Ahmad serves as a catalyst for the positive changes in Johor. Whether they like it or not, the people of Johor would have to admit the fact that the low level of harmony that they are enjoying now, is the consequence of the failure of the party that they had given the mandate to rule the state. What is happening in Kelantan now is the opposite. With God’s permission a similar situation of that in Kelantan might turn into reality in Johor, should Johor be ruled by Pakatan Rakyat..
